Grading & Report Cards

In order for HISD students to be promoted to the next grade level, they must show that they have learned what the State of Texas requires of all public-school children. HISD “Promotion Standards” generally include classroom grades and a local or state test. Details about the standards are available online through your child’s school.

Grading and Report Cards  SYR 2025–2026

Academic Subjects	Conduct
90–100 = excellent	E = excellent
80–89 = good; above average	S = satisfactory
75–79 = satisfactory; average	P = poor; below average
70–74 = passing; below average	U = unsatisfactory
below 70 = unsatisfactory; failing

 

2025-2026 6-Week Grading Periods (used in elementary schools and certain secondary schools)
First Grading Period:	Aug. 12 to Sep. 19
Second Grading Period:	Sep. 22 to Oct. 31
Third Grading Period:	Nov. 03 to Dec. 19
Fourth Grading Period:	Jan. 06 to Feb. 20
Fifth Grading Period:	Feb. 23 to Apr. 17
Sixth Grading Period:	Apr. 20 to Jun. 04

 

Elementary schools (and certain secondary schools) send report cards to parents six times during the year, shortly after the end of each six-week grading period: September 19, October 31, December 19, February 20, April 17, and June 4 (elementary and middle schools) and June 12 (high schools).
